Assistant in Forest and Wetland Ecology

Project Description

We are looking for a field and lab assistant for a project evaluating the effects of forest management on hydrology, water quality, soil biology, and vegetation.

Responsibilities

Fieldwork in forests outside Uppsala and around Sweden. Laboratory work in water and soil chemistry, and DNA extraction in Uppsala. Fieldwork includes sampling of peat and water, instrumentation for measuring environmental variables, sampling of tree core samples, and other data collection in the field.

Qualifications

Applicants should be accustomed to working in forests and fields. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is required. Experience in sampling peat and tree core samples and groundwater in peatlands is mandatory. The applicant should have experience in laboratory work related to water and soil chemistry (e.g., DOC and total nitrogen), and also have worked with DNA extraction from soil samples. A driving license (B) and driving experience are required. Completed courses in biology, including ecology, are necessary.

We place great importance on personal qualities such as teamwork and the ability to work independently.

Desirable

Completed courses in ecological methodology at the university level are also desirable.

About the Position

The position is temporary until 2025-11-30. The extent is full-time. Start date as soon as possible by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
